2014 AHFA NSW HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR - WINNER.
This collection was inspired by my love for the art of photography and the incredible photographers I spend hours upon hours being captivated by. Photography is such an active, living, breathing part of the collection process and I was intrigued by the way that one final image, itself formed from so many different sources of inspiration, can then inspire another image.
I am obsessed with Mert and Marcus’ partnership. Their Interview shoot with Naomi Campbell had me fascinated, with a look that was dark, sexy, steamy and with a shocking, violent tone. The attention to detail in their images amazes me, but I also love the brashness of their portfolio and the way they constantly reinvent and challenge themselves.
I was also drawn to Jean-Paul Goude’s iconic photograph of Grace Jones for her 1985 ‘Island Life’ cover. The way he formed and digitally manipulated the seemingly impossible image - in the era before of photoshopping - showed how he had a unique vision, as he challenged what everyone thought could be created. The look is strong, athletic and screams woman in power!
‘Neon Pop’ combines the highly stylised looks of Goude’s 80’s with a darker edge. The pops of neon juxtapose the dark leather and moody lighting. The models capture Grace’s iconic strength, while the styling features typical 80’s shapes with some not-so typical experimentation with texture.
