For those of you who’ve been hibernating (who are these people?), the universe has a massive girl crush going on! I wish I could say- I’m different, she’s not my type, I’m just not that into her… but I fib. I’m no different, she is my type and I’m all over her like a fat kid on cake. She is physically beautiful, legs for days and truly an icon of this generation… not to mention a heart of gold. It was she who sent her fans Christmas presents from all over the world with hand written notes- say whaaaaattttt??? We can all learn a little lesson from, you guessed it, Ms Taylor Swift.
I have confessed a million times over the obsession I have over the T-Swift. She is perfection and, as a woman and professional, someone I look up to, like really look up to- have I mentioned the legs for days?!
It’s actually a really funny story I want to share- not like funny ha ha… like just funny. In one of my last blog posts, I mentioned tips on a successful photoshoot. I said hey I have a little experience on this- I wanna share it! So check this- here comes the funny part: with that photoshoot I didn’t get in. I entered the comp and thought it was enough, because it’s a piece of you and you almost feel attached to it. But majority says, “Nah!” Like that’s what it feels like a big “Nah!” Anyway, moving right along, fast forward the emotional distress and so-called constructive criticism that followed the question: WHY?... I learnt to #shakeitoff.
#shakeitoff: Why the hashtag you ask? (‘cause I hear you askin!) I feel like there are a mammoth of these moments in our lives that require filing. Some never to be re-lived. Some that define us and some that others may define us by. I choose to replay the ones that define me, ones that show my true spirit, they should show up on a popular page or something, right?!
Tay Tay has these moments, so obviously she chooses to let it be and keep booty scootin’ her way around town. She doesn’t feel she needs to answer the criticism or act a certain way because she has a title or hold a couple of records under her Elie Saab belt. She hi-fives her mate, Ed Sheeran, as he concludes a killa performance at the VS Runway show, she donates to New Yorks public schools and she gives money to buskers in streets! She’s real, herself and ain’t afraid to be it! Can you imagine the entourage suffocating her, putting her up on that pedestal?? And still she is the queen of philanthropy with her sexy stilettos glued to the sidewalk!
A very beautiful friend, inside and out, said to me after my #shakeitoff moment: after you put the scissors down, the blowdryer away and the colour bowls rinsed and dried… it’s the person that stands there that matters. Does holding that trophy define you? Does not even becoming a finalist define you?? No and no… Your thoughts and actions will. Be respectful, appreciate your opportunity and, in the words of Ellen D, be kind to one another.
